(STRANGE) China Scientists Report UFO…

leave a comment »

(Newser Summary) – Chinese scientists have reported filming a UFO for 40 minutes during the solar eclipse in July, reports the Telegraph. Researchers from the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing said they will study the footage for a full year before they issue any conclusions. Scientists “discovered near the sun an unidentified object,” said the director of the observatory. “Its physical nature remains to be further studied.”

Researchers will “deal with this data, complete the data analysis, and reveal the scientific findings,” said the director. The report follows a series of UFO sightings in China, including one filmed the day of the solar eclipse by students in Deqing in Guandong Province, which shows a glowing object that changes shape.

Gadhafi Libya Leader(Newser Summary) – Moammar Gadhafi plans to urge the United Nations to wipe Switzerland off the map when he visits New York later this month, the New York Daily News reports. The Libyan leader—as part of a vendetta against the Alpine nation that began when his son Hannibal was busted for beating up his servants in a Geneva hotel—will ask the UN to abolish the country and divide its land up between Italy, France, and Germany, Swiss lawmakers say.

Boeing (BA) CEO Jim McNerney is eager to move the company to China. Whether moving Boeing to China means shifting its headquarters from Chicago to Beijing is up in the air. But Boeing already has $600 million in supplier partnerships with China — such as a deal with Shenyang Aircraft Corporation to build an assembly for the 787’s vertical fin. And Stan Sorscher, who spent 20 years at Boeing before taking a post at the Society of Professional Engineers in Aerospace (SPEEA) in 2000, told me that McNerney is hooked on the idea of shifting Boeing to China.

Sorscher told me that McNerney recently hosted a meeting with a group of engineers to discuss how Boeing should build its next aircraft. The conclusion of the meeting was that McNerney is comfortable with the way the 787 was developed but thinks it could use a bit of tweaking — and he’d like to shift more of the design and manufacturing of future Boeing aircraft to China.

This would leave Boeing as a systems integrator which outsources product development to China and other countries. According to Sorscher, the engineers were very nervous in their presentation — perhaps fearing that they would be punished for bringing McNerney the bad news that they believed Boeing should never repeat what it has done in the design and manufacturing of the 787. The engineers reportedly believe that in the future Boeing should take far greater authority and responsibility for aircraft design. Read More

PD*26952233(Newser Summary) – Travel between North and South Korea returned to normal today, eight months after Pyongyang clamped down on imports from the South. It’s the latest sign of warming ties between the two Koreas, following a recent deal on reuniting separating families and the fight high-level diplomatic talks in two years. Negotiations last month between North Korea and South Korean automaker Hyundai led to the changes, reports CNN.

(POLITICAL) READ: Japanese election ends half a century of rule by conservative party…

Source: Newsrunner

Japan Politics ElectionsTOKYO — Japan’s opposition swept to a historic victory in elections Sunday, crushing the ruling conservative party that has run the country for most of the postwar era and assuming the daunting task of pulling the economy out of its worst slump since World War II.

A grim-looking Prime Minister Taro Aso conceded defeat just a couple hours after polls had closed, suggesting he would quit as president of the Liberal Democratic Party, which has ruled Japan for all but 11 months since 1955.

“The results are very severe,” Aso said. “There has been a deep dissatisfaction with our party.”

Unemployment and deflation — and an aging, shrinking population — have left families fearful of what the future holds.

Fed up with the LDP, voters turned overwhelmingly to the opposition Democratic Party of Japan, which ran a populist-leaning platform with plans for cash handouts to families with children and expanding the social safety net. Read More

(READ): Colonel Gaddafi party to outshine the Beijing Olympics…

Source: Telegraph.co.uk

Libyan women walk in front of a billboard showing Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi celebrating his 40th anniversary.

Libya is planning a celebrations on the scale of the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the coup that brought Colonel Gaddafi to power.

If anything, the superlatives will be even greater as Beijing 2008 did not boast the world’s largest tent, 1,000 camels, Toureg nomads or 40 hot air balloons.

Performers are being flown in from all over the planet, from dancers and fireworks specialists to a brass band from Wales.

The giant tent, and the stage within it, longer than a football pitch, are being built by a British special events company, Atlantic Enterprise.

The director is a Frenchman and the party is being put together by a public relations company run by the British government’s one-time favourite ad-man.

“Everything is bespoke for this event,” said Atlantic’s managing director, Shane McCarthy. “Nothing like this has ever been done before.”

Organisers are expecting 300,000 Libyans to watch the show being put on next Tuesday to mark the anniversary live, with more on television.

After congregating in Libya’s capital Tripoli, newly whitewashed and decorated with Gaddafi posters, hundreds of VIP guests will enjoy an evening buffet.

They will then be escorted into a smaller version of the open Bedouin tent, 130 yards by 45 yards, by 27 yards tall, in which the pageant will take place. Once they are joined by Col Gaddafi himself, the show will begin. Read More
